New York Serial Killer Finally Arrested After 13 years

After a thorough 13-year investigation into the Gilgo Beach killings on Long Island, law enforcement officials have filed charges against a 59-year-old individual for the murder of three out of the 11 victims whose remains were discovered in 2010. The accused, identified as Rex Heuermann, was presented in court on Friday and entered a plea of not guilty.

Unfinished Pizza Led To The Arrest

District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said police were able to close in on the 59-year-old suspect after analyzing DNA on an unfinished pizza crust. Furthermore, as stated in the court document, forensic analysis revealed that a hair discovered on the burlap used to wrap one of the victims was conclusively identified as a DNA match to Heuermann.

Lost Girls

The previously unsolved murders garnered significant attention through various CBS “48 Hours” episodes as well as the Netflix film “Lost Girls” released in 2020. Heuermann was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder after his arrest on Thursday night.
