NASA Shares Mesmerizing Photo Of Flower Grown In Space

NASA has shared a fascinating photo of a flower grown in the International Space Station that instantly went viral on social media. The image was shared by NASA on Instagram which said that the agency started growing the colorful zinnia flower back in 2015 and so far, the experiment has been a success.

The photo was actually clicked by astronaut Scott Kelly back in 2016 and the plant was grown as part of the Veggie facility at the ISS.The description provided the audience with a  brief historical perspective about zinnia flowers. The post further said that scientists have been experimenting and studying plants in space for more than five decades now. The experiment provides the scientists with valuable insight that could be used for future food production in space to sustain humans.

NASA has a special vegetable production system called Veggie, where scientists have been growing different types of plants for both research and dietary purposes. The agency has been quite successful in growing three types of lettuce, mizuna mustard, Chinese cabbage, red Russian kale with a wide variety of other plants.
