Co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates met the Chinese president and had a very fruitful discussion, according to the Chinese foreign office. The Chinese president Xi Jinping called Bill Gates “an old friend” and said he was happy to meet him after several years.
First American Friend
Xi Jinping told Bill Gates that he was looking to enhance people-to-people interaction between the US and China as it could be beneficial for the people of both the countries. Gates stayed in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse where China has only received high profile foreign diplomats in the past. Xi told Gates that he was the first American friend he had met this year, despite meeting Elon Musk and Tim Cook this year too.
China Not pursuing Hegemony
The Chinese President told Gates that China had no intentions of pursuing hegemony or being imperialistic but aims to have good relations with all the countries. The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is also expected to arrive in China as both countries look to stabilize the relations.
