Canada Wildfires Could Last The Entire Summer, Minister Says

The wildfires in Canada have intensified and could last for the entire summer, the provincial minister has warned. The wildfires that started in April in the western provinces of British Columbia and Alberta have burned 17,800 square miles so far. The officials involved in mitigating the impact have called for more support as the fires have gone out of control.

Fires Could Last Entire Summer

According to The Washington Post, around 2,300 fires were reported in nine out of the 13 provinces and territories of Canada as of Thursday. The fires have destroyed approximately 9.4 million acres of forest and displaced 100,000 people from their homes. If the fires were not controlled, there is a risk of exponential growth of respiratory and skin diseases across North America.

100 Million in US Under Pollution Warnings

The air quality across the northeastern US surged to a dangerous 380 AQI, which later dropped to 250 on Friday. A week ago, the US Environment Protection Agency said that more than 100 million in the US were threatened by the wildfires in Canada and urged people to remain vigilant and stay indoors till the fires are under control.
