The US and Finish governments have signed a joint declaration to work on 6G technology to counter the Chinese influence in the tech world. US State Secretary Anthony Blinken said that both the governments will roll in billions of dollars for research and development of the 6G network.
Democratic Network
The agreement between the US and Finland was hailed as an introduction of a network system that is democratic and transparent. Blinken further said that the US was committed to investing in technology that was beneficial for its citizens and ensure human rights and fundamental freedoms. The 5G was previously criticized for being overly influenced by the Chinese government due to the security risks it posed.
US Countering Chinese 5G
In 2023, the US has already made enough effort to help strengthen its relationship with allies against the Chinese 5G network. In MArch 2023, the UK and US teamed up to establish development centers to work jointly on future 6G technology. The US and Japan have also teamed up to invest $4.5 million towards research and development in the field.
