Twitter has suspended its services in Turkey a day before elections in the country. Twitter didn’t specify what type of content will be restricted but users suspect it’ll be about the elections. The ban was announced on a legal request just a day before Turkey’s presidential and parliamentary elections, but twitter didn’t declare who made the request.
Elon Musk Criticized For The Move
Elon Musk was criticized for the move by some on the platform after he restricted the services in Turkey. Elon Musk defended the ban by responding to a critic by saying “The choice is have Twitter throttled in its entirety or limit access to some tweets”. The user Yglesias said that we will eventually have “Twitter Files” if such censorship continues.
Analysts Speculate
Political experts have argued that the move could be for a positive reason as both the opposition and the government have criticized powerful countries for interfering in the elections via social media.
