Republican Congressman Charged With Fraud & Money Laundering

George Santos, a republican member of the US Congress has been charged with fraud, theft of public money and money laundering. He turned himself in to the authorities at the federal district courthouse in Central Islip.

The 20-page indictment accuses the republican, whose biography has largely been fabricated, of being involved in three fraud schemes. The federal prosecutors said that he defrauded the campaign money and used it for personal luxuries. Secondly he has been involved in an unemployment insurance fraud scheme despite earning a salary of $120,000. Santos has also been accused of misleading the House of Representatives about his finances.

Fabricated Biography

He was also accused of other charges including lying about his degree and his parents. He falsely claimed that his parents survived the Holocaust which didn’t happen as per the federal prosecutors. The House Speaker Kevin McCarthy even called upon Santos to resign immediately if he was found guilty.
