A new study has found that worms crave for their favorite food when they are high on cannabis. The study published in the Current Biology journal noticed that worms showed interest in higher-calorie foods when they were soaked in Cannabis.
Cannabis And Appetite
According to the study, the discovery implies that cannabis may disrupt a crucial process that activates appetite and hence a stronger urge for junk food. The brain, nervous system, and other areas of the body have proteins called cannabinoid receptors that are activated when cannabinoids bind to them. Endocannabinoids, which are cannabinoids naturally produced in the body, can trigger these receptors as well, the study found.
Treating Diseases
Shawn Lockery, an author of the study and a neuroscientist, suggested that the study can help in treating multiple diseases in future. According to the study, the researchers proposed that worms could be utilized for testing and screening medications meant for human benefit.
