Amid global security concerns about the Chinese-owned app, some democrat lawmakers are firmly against banning TikTok. A week ago, TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew, faced four and a half hours of questioning at the US congressional hearing where the CEO was thrown at uncomfortable questions whether or not TikTok is safe for American users.
Some Democrats Defend TikTok
Amid all the banning drama in the US legislature, some two dozen democrats are not in favor of banning the video-sharing platform in the US. Dean Phillips of Minnesota told the AP that TikTok is one of the easiest ways to reach American kids. Rep. Jeff Jackson of North Carolina and senator Bob Casey explained how they’ve engaged with members of LGBT community and raised important issues on the platform.
TikTok Never Leaked Data
TikTok’s CEO said in the congressional hearing that TikTok has never shared the data of US citizens with the Chinese government and will not do so if the government asks for it. “ByteDance ( TikTok’s parent company) has five board members. Three of them are American,” he said.
