Covid-19 can linger in the human brain and other body parts, for months. The autopsy of the brains of those who died from the virus showed signs of prolonged covid. Previously it was not known whether the virus can infect other parts of the human body. The new study was conducted between April 2020 to March 2021.
Viral RNA In 84 Body Locations
The new study was published in the journal Nature. Researchers from US National Institutes of Health (NIH) found viral RNA in 84 different locations in the subjects being studied. In one instance, they isolated viral RNA 230 days after a patient’s symptoms first appeared.
Brain And Spinal Cord
Covid was detected in the hypothalamus and cerebellum regions in one patient, and it was also detected in the spinal cord of two other patients.
