Democrats Maintain Control Of Senate After Georgia Victory

Democrats retained control of the senate after a crucial victory in Georgia. In a Georgia run-off election, Democratic US Senator Raphael Warnock defeated Republican opponent Herschel Walker, giving his party a clear majority in the Senate. Democrats now hold a 51-seat advantage because of Warnock’s victory over Herschel Walker, a margin that will be crucial over the upcoming two years.

End To Divided Senate

Compared to the 50-50 balance in Congress, Democrats will now enjoy major governing advantages. The majority of democrats in the senate, in each committee, will enable them to move legislation and nominees more quickly. Democrats will also benefit from larger staff and resources, which will improve their capacity to serve on committees.

Biden Congratulatory Phone Call

President Biden called Raphael Warnock to offer his congratulations. Biden posted a photo on Twitter where he was on a call to congratulate Warnock. “Tonight Georgia voters stood up for our democracy,” Biden’s Twitter post said.
