The Biden administration has secretly encouraged Ukraine to signal it is open to negotiations with Russia, reports the Washington Post. Previously Ukraine has held a position whereby it would not negotiate with Russia as long as Putin remained in power.
According to Washington Post sources, the Biden administration is not attempting to push Kiev to the negotiating table but to ensure that other states keep supporting Ukraine. Other states might reduce their support if Ukraine does not show itself open to negotiations.
Nations in Europe, Africa and Latin America might be wary of fueling an ongoing war, as these regions have been hit particularly hard by rising fuel and food prices.
