COP27 Climate Summit Begins Amidst Global Energy Crisis

This year’s COP27 Climate Summit comes amid a backdrop of a global energy crisis. The 27th United Nations conference on climate is hosted in Egypt, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has disrupted global energy supplies and increased reliance on dirty fossil fuels like coal. The war is a reminder to nations worldwide to be self-reliant in energy matters, which for many countries means relying on renewable sources of energy.

Coal also makes up a large part of the energy mix in fast-growing developing countries, especially in Asia, for example in China and India.
