Five lions in Sydney’s Taronga zoo escaped their cages causing panic among employees and tourists forcing them to shelter in “safe zones.”
Taronga Zoo Lions Escape
At about 6:30 am on Wednesday, the lions—four pups and one adult—were spotted outside of their pen. Not long later, the zoo went into lockdown due to a “code one” alarm. The lions returned to their enclosure soon before 9 am after the police were contacted at 7:10 am.
The zoo’s most critical signal, a code one, calls for an immediate reaction.
Later on Wednesday, the zoo claimed that the lions’ escape was caused by an “integrity issue.”
