Former Chinese President Escorted Off-Stage

The former Chinese President, Hu Jintao, was escorted off-stage during Saturday’s meeting of senior Chinese officials, reports the Washington Post.

Hu Jintao was China’s president from 2002 to 2012. His sudden departure during the closing ceremony of the 20th National Congress came moments after foreign journalists were let into the meeting hall.

The health and private life of top party officials are considered State secrets, according to the Washington Post. This might have given a pretext for Jintao being hidden away from foreign media.

The CCP’s National Congress made amendments to the constitution and paved the way to give Xi Jinping another 5 years in power.
