The Wall Street Journal sees another 75 basis point rate hike by the Fed on the November 1-2 meeting as increasingly likely. Some Federal Reserve officials have made statements that suggest rate hikes early next year are less likely and that the rate of increases will be reduced to 50 or 25 basis points, pointing out that rate hikes could hurt the economy unnecessarily.

Central banks have been raising rates in recent months to fight inflation. Many analysts see central banks walking a tight line as their attempts to reduce inflation could hamper economic growth and cause a recession.
