Putin Wants End To War: Says Turkey’s President Erdogan

Russia wants to end the war and hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an interview. President Erdogan held talks with the Russian president in a meeting held in Uzbekistan on 16 September. During the talks, Putin praised Erdogan’s attempts to end the war in Ukraine.

Things Are Problematic

Erdogan mentioned that things are not going well for both sides. The end can only be possible if both parties agree to a ceasefire, and he also said that the Russian role in initiating the peace talks will be most important. ‘‘200 hostages will be exchanged’’ if an agreement is reached to any successful conclusion, he said without giving further detail.

Turkey’s Role In The Conflict

Turkey’s role in the conflict has so far been of important concern for the entire world. Turkey is the only NATO member that has openly criticized the western sanctions isolating Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. Erdogan helped the UN to resume Grain exports from Ukraine.
