Students were told to evacuate the building after a package exploded on campus at Northeastern University causing minor injuries to a 45-year-old staff member. The injured was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his hands.
Second Bomb Diffused
The witnesses said the first package exploded as it was being opened near the university’s Holmes Hall. A second similar package was successfully diffused by the police bomb squad. Another suspicious package was found near a prominent art museum on campus. ‘‘I will tell you that the scene is secure in that the investigation is ongoing,’’ Felipe Colon, Boston Police officer, told the news conference.
Campus Was Secured
The police force responded within a minute when the incident was reported. ‘‘Our campus is secure and we will maintain a secure campus,’’ Michael Davis, a Police chief from the Northeastern University police department told the reporters. The authorities said that they were increasing patrols on their campuses and urging students and everyone to report anything suspicious.
