Samsung Data Breach Exposes US Customers

Samsung has released a statement stating that their US customer data was stolen on August 4, 2022.

An “unauthorized third party acquired information from some of Samsung’s U.S. systems,” according to a short statement from Samsung, which claimed it learned of the security problem in late July. The company said it discovered on August 4 that customer data had been hacked.

What info was stolen?

Social Security and credit card numbers, according to Samsung, were untouched, but certain customer data, including name, contact and demographic details, date of birth, and product registration data, were stolen.

Customers of Samsung were sent an email informing them of the hack and advising them to change their passwords.

How was Samsung hacked?

Samsung has not revealed how it was compromised because the investigation is still ongoing.

The company announced that it has taken measures to safeguard its networks and hired an undisclosed outside cybersecurity consultancy. According to Samsung, it was working with law enforcement.

This marks the second time Samsung has been hacked this year.
