In the past, we have seen Instagram copy Snapchat with their Story feature, then recently we saw Instagram copy TikTok with their Reel feature. Now Instagram is looking to copy another rival BeReal with their new features.
What Is BeReal?
BeReal is a new and upcoming photo-sharing social media app.
You can share pictures of yourself and your life on BeReal, but there is a catch. Everybody is required to publish at the same time, once each day.
The app alerts users that it’s “time to Be Real” at various random times throughout the day. When a user launches the app, a two-minute timer begins, allowing them a finite amount of time to take a picture of whatever they’re doing at the time.
In order for other users to see how you appear and where you are when you submit a BeReal, the app captures a photo using both your front and rear cameras.
Instagram’s New Feature
Instagram is experimenting with a feature called “IG Candid Challenges” that remarkably resembles BeReal’s main idea. With the Candid Challenges feature, Instagram users are prompted to upload a photo to their Stories within a two-minute time limit “daily at a different time.” Additionally, it appears to take pictures with two cameras simultaneously—a selfie and a rear-facing photo.
