A Dutch antitrust regulator fined Apple 5 million euros ($5.65 million) Monday for failing to comply with the Dutch government’s order to open its app store to allow dating app developers in the Netherlands to use alternative payment methods.
In its statement issued on Jan. 15, Apple said it had complied with the Dec. order of the Authority for Consumers and Markets. However, the regulator said Apple had not complied.
In its statement, the ACM said Apple failed to meet the requirements on several points.
One of the most serious problems is that Apple has not adjusted its terms, so dating app providers are still unable to use other payment methods. The providers of dating apps can only express their “interest” at the moment.”
In response to the ACM decision, Apple has appealed. The company could not be reached for comment right away.
As a result, the ACM informed the company it would fine the company between 5 million and 50 million euros each week until it complied with the decision.
