Blinken To Name Former U.S. Official Rina Amiri As Special Envoy For Afghan Women-Sources

State Department official Rina Amiri will be named a special envoy for Afghan women, girls, and human rights by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday, two people familiar with the matter said.

As a consultant to governments, the United Nations, and think tanks on Afghan issues, Amiri has spent two decades in this profession. In the administration of former U.S President Barack Obama, she served as a senior advisor to the U.S. Afghanistan and Pakistan Special Representative.

A source said that another official will be tapped to serve as Blinken’s senior adviser for women and girls on Afghanistan relocation efforts, Stephenie Foster, a long-time State Department official.
