An Indian man was arrested after making a Facebook appeal to hoist the Palestinian flag

A Muslim man was arrested by police in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh after he wrote on social media that he wanted people to hoist the Palestinian flag on their homes and vehicles in conjunction with Israel’s attack on Gaza.

Yasir Akhtar, was arrested after he posted a message on his Facebook page urging residents of his Saraimeer village to display the flag after congregational prayers on Friday.

Over 230 Palestinians, including at least 65 children, were killed when Israeli forces bombed Hamas properties and residential buildings in the besieged, devastated Gaza Strip over the course of 11 days.

Wide global protests erupted in response to Israel’s military activity, with demonstrators calling for Israel to be punished for breaking international law and for sanctions to be imposed on it.
