Caitlyn Jenner is officially running for governor of California.
Jenner announced the news on Twitter on Friday morning.
She mentioned that she has submitted her initial paperwork and that her campaign website and donor page have just gone online. Jenner stated that a formal announcement would be made in the coming weeks.
The 71-year-old Republican, Olympic champion, reality TV star, and transgender rights activist has been speaking with GOP advisors about entering the field of candidates seeking to succeed Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in a possible recall election later this year.
“I am a proven winner and the only outsider who can put an end to Gavin Newsom’s disastrous time as governor,” Jenner wrote in her announcement. “Californians want better and deserve better from their governor For too long, career politicians have over-promised and under-delivered.”
