Prosecutors in Spain are seeking a 15-year sentence for a man accused of strangling his mother, chopping up her body, and eating her remains. He is facing a trial in Madrid this week.
The defendant, Albert SG, is on trial for murder and desecrating a corpse. He is known as the “cannibal of Ventas” after the neighborhood where police found the blood-stained flat containing some grisly remains.
According to the indictment, the incident occurred in early 2019 at the flat the suspect shared in Ventas, close to Madrid’s famous bullring. It is believed that the suspect and his 69-year-old mother had a spat.
During the altercation, he strangled his mother and pulled her into her bedroom, where he cut her up with a saw and two kitchen knives “in order to get rid of the body,” according to the report.
According to local media reports at the time, the suspect was arrested on February 23, 2019, after police arrived to inquire about his mother. The mother had been reported missing by a friend.
Prosecutors want him imprisoned for 15 years and have demanded that he pay his older brother 90,000 euros (US$110,000) in compensation.
