NFL Players Join Alliance for Criminal Justice Reform After Chauvin Verdict

The NFL Players Association has joined the Alliance for Criminal Justice Reform to support effort to get the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act passed by the United States Senate.

With the aim of passing criminal justice reform legislation, the Alliance for Criminal Justice Reform is bringing together celebrities, musicians, actors, former politicians, and thought leaders in the field.

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, among other things, enacts a federal ban on police chokeholds, requires federal officers to wear body cameras, creates a national police brutality database, and ends eligible immunity for police officers, which protects them from civil litigation. The bill was passed by the House in March, but the Senate has yet to vote on it.

Following Tuesday’s verdict, several NFL teams issued statements praising the prosecution while also emphasizing the importance of continuing to work for the ultimate goal of equality and the abolition of institutional racism.
