Protests against the police killing of Daunte Wright continue, as his family demands justice

Protesters took to the streets for the third night in a row in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, where a white police officer killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright, a Black man, during a traffic stop on Sunday. Police launched bullets at a protest in front of the Brooklyn Center police department, calling it illegal and ordering reporters to evacuate.

Kim Potter, the cop who murdered Daunte Wright, and Tim Gannon, the city’s police chief, both resigned on Tuesday amid mounting public outrage. Potter worked as an officer trainer as well. During a joint press conference with George Floyd’s family, Daunte’s aunt, Naisha Wright, referred to the news of her resignation.

Naisha Wright also revealed that George Floyd’s girlfriend was her nephew’s former teacher.

“She was the law. She was the law, right? Protect and serve. Put her in jail, like they would do any one of us.”

Philonise Floyd, George Floyd’s brother, also spoke at the press conference.

The tense news conference took place outside the Hennepin County Courthouse, where former police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial was continuing for the 12th day.
