As the country deals with a spike in the delta version of the COVID-19 virus, Dr. Anthony Fauci feels that the lockdowns saw last year are unlikely to recur, but he cautions “things will get worse.”
“I don’t think we’re gonna see lockdowns. I think we have enough of the percentage of people in the country — not enough to crush the outbreak — but I believe enough to not allow us to get into the situation we were in last winter. But things are going to get worse.”
Concerns about the coronavirus resurfaced this week, as fresh information about the virus’s outbreak in Provincetown, Massachusetts, sparked fears that the now-dominant delta version may spread among fully vaccinated people.
Despite the fact that breakthrough cases in vaccinated persons are largely mild and do not result in hospitalization or death, the findings aided the CDC’s decision to reinstate mask requirements for vaccinated individuals in regions of high or significant viral transmission.
