Houthis Attack Two Saudi Airports, Killing Three

By Wesley Messamore
Large plume of black smoke rises from the fuel storage depot at King Khalid International Airport, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sept 19, 2026.

Three people have been killed and 36 wounded after attacks hit two major Saudi airports.

As Yemen’s Houthis claimed responsibility for launching missiles and drones at the transport hubs.

Saudi authorities said an Egyptian and an Algerian national died at Abha International Airport.

A Sudanese national was killed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

The Saudi-led coalition said it destroyed the ballistic missile launch platform used in the Riyadh attack.

But what does this mean for a conflict already spreading beyond Yemen?

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said a ballistic missile targeted Riyadh’s airport and claimed it disrupted air traffic.

Saudi authorities said the missile was intercepted. Meanwhile, another missile near Yemen’s Aden airport reportedly forced a Cairo-bound flight to divert to Jeddah.

Fighting Intensifies

The attacks come as fighting intensifies inside Yemen.

Government forces have launched a major counter-offensive against the Houthis, who control much of the northwest.

Recently seized large areas along the Red Sea.

More than 200,000 people have been displaced since the fighting resumed, according to the UN, while rival battlefield claims remain difficult to verify.

For civilians, the consequences are painfully simple. One resident said, “people there are terrified.”

With airports under fire and another offensive underway, how much farther can Yemen’s war spread before the region feels the impact?
