Ex-Google DeepMind Researcher Warns That AI Could ‘Kill All Humans’

Another AI researcher has raised a stark warning about where the technology could lead, saying artificial intelligence could potentially “kill us all”.

Time to prevent such an outcome may be running short.

Bilal Chughtai, a former Google DeepMind research engineer who worked on AI safety and alignment, said he recently left the company because of his concerns.

“I earnestly believe that AI has the potential to kill us all,” Chughtai wrote, adding that the world “might be running out of time” to avoid that outcome.

His warning follows similar comments from Anthropic researchers.

Jacob Coxon recently said AI developers genuinely believe the technology could become deadly within the decade.

Scientist Evan Hubinger estimated there was a greater than 10% chance of AI killing all humans during that period.

So Is Catastrophe Inevitable?

Chughtai says no. But he argues that AI companies must stop racing ahead without enough safeguards.

“We need to pace AI development to a speed that society can handle,” he said, allowing emerging risks to be addressed before serious harm occurs.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has made a similar call for slowing advanced AI development.

Gaining unusual support from Elon Musk and OpenAI’s Sam Altman.

Yet President Donald Trump has dismissed calls for regulation as a “hoax.”

The debate is growing louder. The real question is whether caution can keep pace with AI itself.
