Swedish School Sword Attack Leaves Two Teenagers Seriously Injured

Two teenagers seriously injured after sword attack at Swedish school.

Two teenagers have been seriously injured after a sword attack at a high school in Sweden.

The attack prompted a major police response and lockdowns at nearby schools.

Officers were called to Brinell School in Fagersta shortly after 14:00 on Friday and arrested a man at the scene.

A third person was also wounded, while Swedish media reported that the suspect was shot in the leg by police.

For a tense period, eight nearby schools were placed under lockdown, while authorities raised the regional alert level in Vastmanland.

The measures have since been lifted, and police say there is no continuing threat to the public.

Attack Raises Safety Fears

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called it a “serious incident”, saying investigators were working intensively to establish what happened and why.

But why does this attack feel particularly alarming?

Sweden has faced several violent incidents at schools in recent years.

In 2025, the country suffered its deadliest mass shooting, while previous school attacks included a fatal sword assault in Trollhattan in 2015.

With students only just returning after the summer break, a place meant for learning has once again become a scene of violence.

The pressing question now is what drove the attack—and how can schools prevent another one?
