Spain Earthquake Injures Three In Historic Granada

Earthquake rocks Spain's historic Granada, injuring three.

Southern Spain was shaken by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake on Tuesday morning, leaving at least three people lightly injured.

It damaged buildings and vehicles around Granada.

The tremor struck at 10:37 local time near Alhendín, roughly 10km south of Granada, at a depth of less than 10km.

Because it was so shallow, the shaking was strongly felt across the area, sending worried residents rushing into the streets.

And this was not an isolated jolt. The earthquake followed a series of shallow tremors that have rattled the region since Friday.

They have left locals anxious about what might come next.

“Everything came crashing down. It was terrifying,” supermarket worker Cristina Ruiz Lopez told AFP.

Falling debris damaged several vehicles, while museums, administrative buildings and sports centres were temporarily closed as authorities assessed the situation.

Earthquake Sparks Safety Measures

Even Granada’s iconic Alhambra palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site visited by millions, was shut for the afternoon while officials inspected the historic complex.

The city’s metro system also slowed trains to 30km/h as a precaution.

For residents accustomed to occasional tremors, Tuesday’s earthquake felt different.

As one local put it, it was “stronger than the ones that happen from time to time”.

Now the big question is whether the shaking is finally settling down or whether another surprise is waiting underground.
