What’s better than spotting a lion at the zoo?

Blackpool Zoo is celebrating the birth of three African lion cubs, the first born there in more than a decade.
The cubs arrived on Sunday, with their mother, Hira, doing something keepers describe as unusual by giving birth outdoors in broad daylight.
To give the newborns the best possible start, parts of the lion habitat have been temporarily closed while staff monitor the family.
The milestone is especially meaningful because the cubs’ father, Khari, was the last African lion born at Blackpool Zoo back in 2015.
“So his journey to fatherhood makes this moment even more special,” said section manager Adam Kenyon.
Also adding that the team is “absolutely delighted” with the new arrivals.
Lion Cubs Delight Keepers
The births also carry a bigger message. African lions are classified as vulnerable in the wild.
Populations are shrinking because of habitat loss, conflict with humans and declining prey.
Visitors eager to meet the cubs may need some patience.
Hira is keeping her youngsters safely hidden, and keepers say anyone who spots them in these early days will be especially fortunate.
Sometimes, the smallest new arrivals deliver the biggest reminder of why conservation matters.
