A new report from Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) found that 20,051 minors were victims of sexual abuse in 2025, up from 19,344 the previous year.
Officials warn the true figure is likely much higher because many cases still go unreported.
BKA chief Holger Muench said abuse is “increasingly shifting to the digital realm,” with online platforms driving the rise in offences.
One of the fastest-growing threats is cyber-grooming, where offenders build trust with children online before exploiting them.
Exploitation Reports Rise Sharply
Authorities also highlighted a sharp increase in cases involving the live online streaming of child abuse.
Reported incidents surged from 25 cases in 2024 to more than 250 in 2025, underscoring how technology is changing the methods used by offenders.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the figures as “alarmingly high,” warning they represent only a fraction of the real problem.
As digital technology continues to evolve, the challenge isn’t just keeping pace with innovation.
It is ensuring it never becomes a shield for those who prey on the most vulnerable.
