Russian rooftopping duo Angela Nikolau and Vanya Beerkus stunned onlookers after scaling the Empire State Building’s antenna spire.
They unfurled a giant banner reading, “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
But the breathtaking stunt didn’t stop there. After climbing down to a lower platform, Beerkus dropped to one knee and proposed.
Nikolau accepted, and the pair celebrated with a kiss while suspended hundreds of metres above Manhattan.
The couple documented the climb on social media.
Their high-risk adventures were featured in the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers.
A Love Story before New York police arrested them without incident.
Love Story Takes Illegal Turn
Authorities charged the pair with offences including burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
Investigators have not revealed how they managed to breach the building’s tight security.
The Empire State Building later described the climb as an “unauthorised incident,” joking that the couple could have used its official proposal package instead.
Even Nikolau’s father, a Russian circus performer, seemed unfazed. “Why should I be worried? I climb up roofs myself,” he said.
Love may conquer many things—but in New York, it still has to answer to the law.
