What happens when a former TV actress finds herself at the centre of one of Australia’s biggest alleged drug smuggling cases?
That’s the question surrounding British actress Emaa Hussen.
She has been charged over an alleged attempt to bring 320kg of methamphetamine into Australia.
Hussen, 34, appeared in a Sydney court after authorities accused her of helping import meth hidden inside bags of charcoal shipped from Ghana.
Prosecutors say the drugs had an estimated street value of A$296 million and could have supplied millions of street-level deals.
If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The case has drawn attention not only because of the scale of the alleged operation.
But also because Hussen previously appeared in the EastEnders spin-off E20 and alongside Jason Statham in the 2013 thriller Hummingbird.
Drug Seizure Sparks Investigation
According to investigators, border officials became suspicious after X-ray scans revealed irregularities in two shipping containers arriving at Sydney’s Port Botany.

Tests later confirmed the presence of methamphetamine concealed among charcoal bags.
Police allege Hussen supervised the unloading of the shipment before several bags were transported elsewhere.
Two other suspects in South Australia have also been charged.
“This seizure prevented a potential 3.2 million drug deals from reaching Australian streets,” said AFP Acting Superintendent Trevor Robinson.
For now, the case remains before the courts. But it serves as a reminder that behind seemingly ordinary cargo can lie extraordinary allegations.
And consequences that can change lives forever.
