Thousands of people have gathered in major cities around the world to condemn Israeli attacks on Gaza, from New York and London to Karachi and Rabbat.
“Free Palestine,” “Israel is a terrorist state,” and “Occupation No More” were among the banners held by some demonstrators.
The Israeli attacks on Gaza come after weeks of rising tensions over the impending forced eviction of Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah, a Palestinian neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem that Jewish settlers have tried to evict for decades.
During a series of days of brutality, Israeli police raided Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City, the third holiest site in Islam, injuring hundreds of Palestinian worshippers. Protests erupted in the occupied territories as well as within Israel. Hamas, the Palestinian group that rules Gaza, fired rockets at Israel.
