Global Warming Has Accelerated In Recent Years, Study Warns

Global warming has seen ‘significant’ acceleration since 2015, study finds.

Is global warming speeding up? According to new research, the answer appears to be yes—and by a noticeable margin.

A recent study by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research suggests that the pace of warming has accelerated significantly since 2015.

Over the past decade, global temperatures have been rising at roughly 0.35°C per decade.

This is almost double the average 0.2°C per decade recorded between 1970 and 2015.

That’s not just a small bump. In fact, researchers say the current warming rate is higher than in any decade.

Since modern temperature records began in 1880.

To reach this conclusion, scientists examined climate observations from major institutions.

Including NASA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Berkeley Earth.

Accelerated Global Warming

But they didn’t stop there. The team carefully removed natural climate “noise”—things like El Niño, volcanic eruptions, and changes in solar activity—to reveal the underlying trend.

“Filtering out these factors helps the real warming signal stand out,” explained co-author Grant Foster.

Lead scientist Stefan Rahmstorf says the evidence is strong: the acceleration since 2015 comes with more than 98% statistical certainty.

In simple terms? The planet isn’t just warming—it’s warming faster than before.

And the clock on climate action may be ticking louder than ever.
