Two Dead As Storm Batters France’s Coastline

Storm kills two in France; strong gusts hit coast.

Northern France is being battered by Storm Amy — a powerful system sweeping in from the British Isles.

It’s already claimed two lives and left thousands without power.

Meteo France issued an orange alert on Saturday, warning of “strong gusts of wind” hitting coastal and inland regions near the English Channel.

Gusts reached a fierce 131 km/h along the northern coast and over 110 km/h further inland — the strongest winds recorded all week.

Tragedy struck early Saturday in Etretat, near Le Havre, when two men braved the storm for a swim.

Only one made it back to shore. Rescue teams said they were unable to intervene because of dangerous conditions.

The 48-year-old’s body was later recovered at low tide.

Storm Amy Wreaks Havoc

In another deadly incident, a massive tree branch crashed onto a car in the Aisne region.

It killed a 25-year-old driver and seriously injured his passenger.

By midday, around 5,000 homes in Normandy had lost power — though crews restored service to more than half before new outages rolled in.

In the Somme region, winds tore nearly the entire roof off one home, leaving residents shaken but unharmed.

Authorities have imposed speed limits across highways until 8 p.m.

But as the storm rages on, one thing’s clear — Amy’s not done howling yet.
