A routine shopping trip turned into a nightmare in Traverse City, Michigan, when a stabbing spree at a Walmart left 11 people injured.
The suspect? A 42-year-old Michigan man—now in custody—armed with what police described as a “folding knife style weapon.”
Why did it happen? So far, authorities say it was a “random act.” No known motive. Just terror, in an instant.
“This was a joint effort all the way through,” said Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea.
He praised citizens who helped detain the attacker and tend to the wounded before emergency crews arrived.
What Was The Response?
“The people in the store really stepped up.”
Outside the store, chaos reigned. Footage shows flashing lights and emergency vehicles flooding the parking lot.
Inside, Munson Medical Center quickly found itself overwhelmed.
“Our Emergency Department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients,” the hospital shared online.
As of Saturday night, five victims were in serious condition. Six were critical.

Even the FBI stepped in to assist local law enforcement.
And Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer called the attack “horrible,” saying her thoughts were with the victims and community.
Traverse City, known for cherries and calm, is now coping with something unthinkable.
A brutal reminder that violence can erupt anywhere—even in aisle five.
