Could your next commute be in a vehicle with no driver? Singapore thinks so.
Come late 2025, self-driving shuttles will roll out in Punggol as part of Singapore’s bold push into autonomous transport.
Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow made the announcement during a recent visit to Guangzhou, China.
What’s The Goal?
He highlighted the country’s five-year plan to modernize its public transport.
Initial routes will connect neighborhoods like Punggol West to amenities in Punggol East—think wet markets and polyclinics.
They will also connect eastern areas to transport hubs like the bus interchange.
“Residents told us what they need, and we’re listening,” said Senior Minister of State Sun Xueling.
The details—routes, vehicle types, and pricing—are still under wraps.
But talks are underway with several big players, including local operators and US-based Waymo.

“There’s room for more than one operator,” Siow noted.
The rollout will be phased. These autonomous shuttles will start with short, fixed routes.
They won’t carry passengers until the community feels ready.
Over time, they could tackle routes currently limited by manpower—like late-night buses.
