John Woeltz, 37, appeared in court Saturday, accused of kidnapping and torturing an Italian tourist for weeks.
Allegedly, it was to steal his bitcoin.
The tourist, 28, flew into New York on May 6.
But what was supposed to be a trip turned into a nightmare.
Once inside Woeltz’s swanky $30,000-a-month townhouse, police say his passport was taken.
What Happened?
He was tied up, beaten, and hung off a ledge—all for refusing to hand over his crypto passwords.
He finally escaped Friday morning, triggering arrests.
A second suspect, 24-year-old Beatrice Folchi, was also taken into custody.
Authorities found disturbing Polaroid photos and firearms at the scene.
“It was like a scene from a horror movie,” a source close to the investigation told local media.

Woeltz, known in crypto circles, hails from Kentucky but had been living large in Manhattan.
Now, he’s facing a long list of charges, from kidnapping to assault.
As the victim recovers in stable condition, one thing’s clear.
Even in the glitzy world of crypto wealth, darkness can hide behind the penthouse curtains.
