UK Military Bases Under Scrutiny For Possible ‘Forever Chemical’ Water Contamination

Fears that UK military bases may be leaking toxic ‘forever chemicals’ into drinking water.

Could your next glass of tap water come with a side of cancer-linked chemicals?

That’s the fear as three UK military bases—RAF Marham, RM Chivenor, and AAC Middle Wallop—are under investigation for leaking PFAS, or “forever chemicals.”

These toxic substances may have contaminated nearby drinking water and protected environments.

PFAS have been used for decades in firefighting foams and consumer products.

What’s The Catch?

They never break down. “They’ll be around for centuries unless we act now,” warned Prof.

Hans Peter Arp, an environmental expert.

These bases sit dangerously close to rivers, conservation zones, and—yes—your water supply.

RAF firefighter Pete Thompson recalls spraying foam straight onto grass fields.

No containment, no clean-up. “It just soaked into the ground.”

While the MoD insists drinking water is safe so far, scientists say we’re barely scratching the surface.

“The quicker we ban these chemicals, the better,” said biologist Prof.

Alex Ford. Cleanup could cost billions—and the public may be stuck with the bill.

The US is miles ahead in tackling PFAS.

Meanwhile, UK labs are swamped, and testing still can’t keep up.
