Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt has been sentenced to an unusual punishment: creating 12 educational videos on animal welfare.
This comes after he illegally accepted a lion cub as a wedding gift last month.
The YouTuber, who has more than 5 million subscribers, is now ordered to make videos on animal rights for community service.
Butt Now To Advocate For Animal Rights
The cub, presented in a cage by fellow YouTuber Umar Dolla, was featured in one of Butt’s videos that caught the attention of wildlife officials.
Authorities have since relocated the Bhatti animal to Lahore Safari Zoo, where experts say it belongs.
Under court orders, he will produce one five-minute video monthly for a year, with support from the wildlife department.
Butt Accepted Mistake
In a statement, Butt admitted his mistake.
“I regret accepting the cub. As an influencer, I should set a positive example,” he said.
Mr Butt pledged to raise awareness about animal rights through his platform after the penalty was set for him.
