The Mastermind of 9/11 Appears in Court 23 Years After His Arrest

More than two decades after the 9/11 attacks, the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the devastating terror attack, remains in limbo.

He was set to plead guilty this week—finally bringing closure to one of history’s most horrific events.

But just as the moment approached, a federal court intervened, pausing the proceedings.

Victims Waiting For Years

“I’ve been waiting for closure, but every time it feels like it’s within reach, it slips away,” says Elizabeth Miller, who lost her father in the attacks.

Families of the victims had made the long journey to Guantanamo Bay, hoping for a resolution.

The devastated families were only told at the last minute that they would have to wait yet again.

The pause comes after a controversial plea deal, where Mohammed would avoid the death penalty in exchange for admitting guilt.

But the US government is now backing out, fearing the deal could cause irreversible harm.
