Man Who Attacked Judge in Court Room Sentenced To 65 Years in Prison

A Las Vegas man who attacked a judge during his sentencing hearing earlier this year has been sentenced to up to 65 years in prison.

Deobra Redden, 31, shocked the courtroom on January 3 when he leaped over the bench and knocked Judge Mary Kay Holthus into a wall.

The court security rushed to save Judge Holthus who fortunately wasn’t hurt so much.

Judge Feared For Her Life

Captured on-court cameras, the incident unfolded as Holthus was sentencing Redden for attempted battery.

Redden told the court he was “in a better place” mentally but felt prison wasn’t the right punishment before his attack.

As the judge began her ruling, he lunged toward her.

Holthus testified she feared for her life during the assault, which left her with minor injuries.

Her marshal sustained a head injury, and her law clerk suffered abrasions.

The judge sentenced him to 26 to 65 years after he testified that he wanted to kill the judge.
