Passengers Recall Horror As Plane Crash Lands in Turkey As Engine Burns

A tense scene unfolded at Turkey’s Antalya Airport on Sunday when a Russian-made passenger plane’s engine caught fire shortly after landing.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100, operated by Azimuth Airlines, had just arrived from Russia when flames erupted from its left engine.

All 89 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated and no one was injured.

Passengers Almost Suffocated

A video of a mother and her daughter went viral on social media who recounted suffocating conditions during the incident.

She covers her and her daughter’s nose to avoid inhaling the lethal fume.

According to Turkey’s transport ministry, the emergency firefighters quickly controlled the fire upon landing at the airport.

Passengers are being evacuated from the plane.

What Caused The Incident?

The incident prompted a temporary halt to landings at the airport until early Monday morning while crews towed the plane off the runway.

Azimuth Airlines attributed the rough landing to wind shear, a weather phenomenon known for causing abrupt changes in wind speed or direction.
