Capitol Hill Christmas Tree Arrives After Journeying 4,000 Miles From Alaska

The US Capitol Christmas Tree has officially arrived in Washington, D.C., just in time for the holiday season!

This year’s showstopper is an 80-foot Sitka spruce from Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the country.

Nicknamed “Spruce Wayne” after a social media naming contest, the tree traveled a long 4,000-mile journey, stopping in 17 states and spreading holiday cheer along the way.

Truck Driver Had Something To Say

Truck driver Fred Austin, who transported the tree, described the experience as anything but ordinary.

“Driving a truck is just plain work, but every stop we made, there were happy faces,” he shared.

“It’s a joyful way to make a trip,” he mentioned.

Once firmly planted on the West Lawn of the Capitol, “Spruce Wayne” will be decorated with thousands of ornaments handcrafted by Alaskans.

After Thanksgiving, the tree will light up as part of the Capitol’s festive traditions.
