A tragic incident in China left at least 35 people dead and 43 injured when a car rammed into a crowd of people exercising at the Zhuhai Sports Centre.
Authorities reported that a 62-year-old man, identified as Fan, allegedly drove an SUV into the crowd.
The car slammed through a barrier and into the stadium, causing widespread casualties among elderly people, teenagers, and children.
Suspect in custody
Fan, who reportedly tried to flee before being arrested, is currently in a coma due to self-inflicted wounds, preventing authorities from questioning him.
Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have been motivated by Fan’s dissatisfaction with a property settlement following his divorce.
People Shocked
Users on Chinese social media expressed shock at the incident, the first of its kind in decades.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed authorities to prioritize treatment for the injured and to ensure strict punishment for those responsible.
