Microsoft has released a report that Chinese backed bots are trying to interfere in the U.S. elections next month.
According to the report, a Chinese-controlled bot network, dubbed Taizi Flood, is targeting specific U.S. political figures, particularly Republican lawmakers.
Lawmakers that are being targeted include Senators Marco Rubio, Marsha Blackburn, and Representatives Barry Moore and Michael McCaul.
Posts Has Almost No Reach
Microsoft researchers tied the network to China’s Ministry of Public Security and found that its goal is to sow division and influence down-ballot races.
The report, however, noted low engagement with the posts with very little following on social media platforms.
The coordinated effort aims to influence voters in Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee by spreading false narratives of corruption and antisemitism.
The targeted lawmakers are known for being vocal critics of China’s policies, Microsoft said.
In response, the Chinese embassy in Washington, denied the allegations by calling them “malicious speculations.”
